Spring for a Day

Well, after all of my wishing and hoping for spring, we got a beautiful day this weekend! On Saturday the high was 71 degrees! It was in the high 60s most of the day, a little windy, and absolutely wonderful. We needed some outside warmth and goodness, so Josh and I scrapped most of our plans for the day, and had a spontaneous day-long date.

First we drove to the art museum area, walked around a bit, and bought some simple goodies for a lunch. I used to live a few blocks away from the art museum, and Josh and I spent many of our first dates talking walks, runs, picnicing, etc - definitely a happy place for us. After gathering our lunch supplies, we sat down on the steps of the art museum and had a fabulous picnic.

I was loving the warm weather and the sandwich...

.... but Josh got cold and had to steal my jacket.

After lunch we took a walk down through the park and by the gardens, experiencing the strange phenomenon of really warm weather and absolutely NO green or other color to accompany it. Think about it - how often do you experience 70 degree weather when the only color nature offers you is dusty brown? We still enjoyed it, though. And, of course, we took some obligatory silly pictures.... except that even in all of our attempts we never quite got silly from both of us...

Our walk took us all around the area, stopping in at Bookhaven (a used bookstore where we picked up some good reads) and Whole Foods (where we got some good snacks), and after a few hours out and about, we decided to still follow through with part of what had been our original day's plan - a trip to IKEA! We had needed some extra organizational help in our bedroom (my current decorating project), so we picked up a bookcase and a couple shelves. I even made a new friend and started singing "I just wanna be a sheep, baaa, baaa, ba, baaa" - but the camera did something silly (Robin, this one is for you)...

While we didn't set up everything when we got home Saturday (we just watched a movie and relaxed), we do have the bookcase and shelves set up now (thanks to help from a few people, including a call to my dad). And, just in case you're wondering, I DID help put everything together. There's no way I'd sit and let Josh have all the fun... it's just that only one of us can take pictures at a time =)

So, there's a recap on the beautiful spring weekend and part of my project. Now, if only spring will come to STAY...

lovely! I definitely need an Ikea run soon. I didn't know they had sheep there! But of course, Ikea has everything. I'm wishing that warm weather back, too. Maybe if we both wish really really hard, it'll come faster!

Hey, I'll take 50 degrees! Notice less than a week before we had a snow day and highs for most days in the MID-20s. I HAVE HAD MY SHARE OF COLD WINTER DAYS. TRUST ME. And yes, we can go to the art museum when you come to visit. It'll even be hot!

And silly, Robin, of COURSE you know that IKEA has everything! Especially sheep puppet friends! And I'm totally wishing really, really hard.
