Yesterday, we got a snow day here in Philly. The forecast had been for 8-12" of snow, and while I don't think we got quite that much, there was definitely a need to celebrate. Yesterday actually marked our THIRD snow day this year. During the previous 2 years, there had been ONE snow day (February 14, 2007, to be exact). Since the school district actually called the snow day Sunday night (which hasn't happened before), we planned with some of our teacher friends to take an adventurous hike to go out for breakfast Monday morning to celebrate.
As we started out on our hike, the snow storm was still only getting started. There were just a few inches of snow on our block, but it was pretty windy (which provided some great snow drifts for me to stomp through with my galoshes).

Lauren was all bundled up as we headed out on our mile trek -- first to pick up some more friends, then accross the park to the subway stop.
After we got off the subway, we had another 3/4 mile hike through the swirling wind and snow to get to Sabrina's. But finally, we made it, and I couldn't wait to order some deliciously wonderful hot chocolate (which got half-consumed before a picture was possible). Also, check out the mugs. I thought they were so fun (there were a few different patterns)... I peeked at the bottom, and they're from IKEA! One more reason to love IKEA.

And THEN, there was the breakfast. Check out my stuffed french toast... I did manage to finish "one" piece of the two... but Josh did have to help me out on the other half. SO GOOD. Seriously. It's a good thing we don't live too close to Sabrina's. It might be the end of me.

After breakfast, we headed home, making our way back through the snow, wind, and bitter cold. The rest of our day was spent reading, playing games, making soup for dinner, cleaning up around the house, playing DDR, cuddling with the kittens, and just taking it easy. All in all, it was definitely a great day to have an adventure, then turn in for some hibernation.
P.S. In case you're wondering, Josh and I DID try to take a picture, but it came out all weird. My camera's on the fritz, I apologize.

holy cow. this looks so delicious. i can't even handle how much i want hot chocolate and stuffed french toast right now. glad you enjoyed your snow day! we had one, too! i slept until 11:30, took an hour "awake nap" and then slept for 2 more hours. craziness. :o/
It was fantabulous. Perhaps next time you fly into Philly, we'll have to make a pit stop before heading to Jersey. We could split one between us, and still be overly full. It would be wonderful.
If that were me I would say that those stuffed french toast and hot chocolate would be wroth the walk in the cold and the time to get their.
And knowing you, my 14-year-old-won't-stop-growing YOUNGER brother, I'm sure you could eat ALL the french toast by yourself!
